About this event

Play a part in addressing homelessness in your local community and broader Perth by assisting the City of Subiaco to gather data about the number of people sleeping rough in Subiaco. This project will be occurring simultaneously across many Perth local governments in a joint initiative.

Small teams of volunteers will walk designated routes in Subiaco counting, from a distance, the number of people sleeping rough and recording this on a smartphone app. Some volunteers will remain at HQ to provide support.

Please read all the below information before registering your interest.

Volunteer Role Description:

Approximately 3.5 hours overnight – 11.30pm Monday, 16 March 2020 to 3.00am Tuesday, 17 March 2020.

Key duties/responsibilities:

  • Attend volunteer briefing and inductions at project HQ on Monday night, 16 March at 11.30pm. (Includes light refreshments).
  • Using own smartphone, download the required app for the count.(Required for one person per pair).
  • In pairs, proceed to designated count locations (maps will be provided). From a distance, count the number of people you see sleeping rough and record this using the app. When complete, return to project HQ to advise your section is complete and to sign out.
  • The count will be in public places only (e.g. parks, streets). Further details will be provided at the briefing.
  • Counters are not to disturb people sleeping or interact with those sleeping rough.
  • PPE – Hi-vis vests will be provided and must be worn by all volunteers, torches will also be provided.

Requirements:

  • Strictly 18+ years.
  • Able to walk comfortably for 2 hours, fit and in good health. (Disclosing a medical condition or disability may not necessarily exclude you from participating, an alternate role might be possible).
  • Must supply own smartphone or be paired with someone who does.
  • Own transport or able to easily access the project HQ at night.
